Life's Brighter Under Sun

Employee Profiles

Laurie Gillespie-Lee

Sr. Manager, Customer Service

When I started at Sun Life in 1974 as a Customer Call Center representative, I thought it was a temporary job.But in March 2006, I celebrated 32 years at Sun Life. During my time here, I've created a diversified and rewarding career, while balancing my commitments outside Sun Life.

I raised my children while working a flexible schedule. My work arrangement allowed me time to juggle afterschool activities, play dates, multiple schedules and appointments.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, I needed to take time for treatment. My manager could not promise me my same job but told me to call him so that he could find me a job in his area. I returned after a year-long absence, and was promoted within a year. I expressed interest in pursuing a manager's career track, and my managers supported my interests. Today I'm a Senior Manager in Individual New Business

I'm also a grandmother and I care for my elderly parents. I still have the flexibility and support from my managers to participate and enjoy my grandchildren, as well as time and resources to care for my parents. Sun Life has afforded me the balance that I need, in my life at work and outside. In all my years here, I can't think of a time when I didn't have balance, and I'm always able to put my family first.
